It's important to weigh all options carefully. In particular, evaluating the security measures and customer support provided can offer insightful information.
The Gambling Commission banned gambling with a credit card from 14 April 2020. The ban covers online gambling with every operator licensed for the British market, so on a UK-licensed site a credit card will be declined at the cashier whatever the card network. A debit card is the card route that remains.
Counted across the 28 UKGC-licensed casinos on our shortlist, from the cashier lists the operators publish:
| Method | Sites accepting it |
|---|---|
| Visa | 28 of 28 |
| MasterCard | 28 of 28 |
| Maestro | 16 of 28 |
| Visa Electron | 14 of 28 |
| Apple Pay | 19 of 28 |
| Google Pay | 6 of 28 |
| PayPal | 24 of 28 |
| Trustly | 25 of 28 |
| Paysafecard | 26 of 28 |
Two warnings the counts hide. A method listed at the cashier is not automatically a payout route — prepaid vouchers deposit and cannot receive a withdrawal, which is set out in the prepaid voucher article. And a debit card payout returns to the card it came from, so a card that has expired since the deposit sends the operator looking for another route and adds days to the wait.
Card deposits are what the Gambling Commission’s financial vulnerability checks count. Since 30 August 2024 an operator has had to run a light background check once a customer is more than £500 net deposited in a rolling 30 days; the threshold fell to £150 on 28 February 2025. The check is done on data the operator can see without asking you, so in most cases nothing happens at the cashier — but it is the reason a run of card deposits can end with a request for documents rather than a payout. Why casinos ask for a payslip sets out what is actually being checked and what is not.
Deposit limits, GAMSTOP self-exclusion and the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133 apply on every site counted above.
Licences are read off the Gambling Commission public register; bonus terms, payment lists and withdrawal rules come from the operator’s own pages. We do not hold accounts with the operators we write about, so nothing here is presented as a personal play session. Updated .
